\”CLEVELAND, Ohio — Recent DNA testing has solved a presidential mystery that scandalized and titillated Americans in the early 20th century.
Was Nan Britton telling the truth when she claimed that President Warren G. Harding was the father of her daughter, Elizabeth Ann?
Nearly a century after Elizabeth Ann was born, on Oct. 22, 1919, two of Harding\’s lateral descendents – his great-nephew Peter and his great-niece Abigail, both 72 – decided to find out.
They contacted Elizabeth Ann\’s son, James Blaesing, 65, a construction contractor in Portland, Ore. With $99 mail-in tests from AncestryDNA, a division of the genealogical company ancestry.com, the three discovered that they are second cousins.
That means that Blaesing and his two brothers are Harding\’s grandsons and his only direct descendants, since Harding and his wife, Florence, never had children.
