General Letter to Congresspersons

(Date)

(Congressperson Name and Address)

Dear _____________________________________,

I urge you to give (insert bill number) a favorable report out of committee.

The bill (insert sentence or two summarizing the proposed legislation) allows for a presumed father to voluntarily take a test to establish paternity.

There are 3 primary victims in cases of paternity fraud: the child, the biological father and the male falsely identified by the mother to be the child’s father. For less than $100, a man can know with certainty whether he is or is not the father of a particular child.

Paternity fraud is a violation of a child’s right to know his/her own identity and the identity of his/her father. The child has a right to have a relationship with his/her biological father and mother. Additionally, the proper identification of a child is important for genetic and medical reasons, as well as, inheritance and medical insurance coverage.

Women Against Paternity Fraud believes that the laws & policies surrounding paternity establishments must require truthful disclosures as to who the biological father is to prevent paternity & child support fraud. We do believe that state laws should provide that no paternity establishment is final unless it has been confirmed by DNA evidence/genetic testing.

When truth in paternity is established, equal rights and equal responsibilities will follow which is in the best interest of men, women, children, and society.

Please support (insert bill number).

Sincerely,
